Reports: Writing to Inform

Dedicated to Mrs. Sclafani

Our second grade class has been studying the human body.  We each chose one or two body parts to write a report on.  I chose the large and small intestines which are a part of the digestive system.  First, I will explain how the body part works. Then I will teach how to keep the body parts healthy.

First, how do the small and large intestines work?  The small intestine is a long big tube.  The large intestine is shorter and wider.  The food goes into the esophagus, the stomach, then the small intestine,  then the large intestine, then out into the toilet.  In the small intestine, waves move liquid food.  Some goes to the blood vessels for energy.  Some goes to  the large intestine, if it can’t get digested.  Then it goes into the toilet.  I think the waves are amazing because it moves the liquid and makes it go to the large intestine.

Now how can you keep your large and small intestines healthy?  You need to wash your hands before you eat.  Germs can get in your food.  It could cause cramps, vomit, and diarrhea.  I realize that if you don’t wash your hands it could cause vomit and diarrhea and cramps.

First, I explained how the small and large intestine work and then I taught how to keep your small and large intestine healthy.  Now that I know how to keep my small and large and intestine healthy I will wash my hands when I eat because if I don’t wash my hands before I eat it will cause serious sickness.  I think everyone should wash their hands because it could prevent sickness.
