Reports: Writing to Inform

Dedicated to Ms. S.

Our second grade class has been studying the human body.  We chose one or two body parts to write a report on.  I chose the brain which is part of the nervous system.  First, I will explain how the body part works.  Then, I will teach how to keep the body part healthy.

First, how does the brain work?  The brain helps you learn,  controls your senses, helps you think and remember, helps you move, and controls breathing and heart beat.  There are 3 parts to the brain and 2 sides.  The Cerebrum makes you think and feel.  It has 2 halves.  The left is for reading and math.  The right is for music and art.  The cerebellum controls balance.  The brain stem controls breathing and blinking.  The brain sends messages to the body to tell it what to do.  I think the brain is amazing because it sends messages to my arms and my legs to move.

Now, how can you keep our brain healthy?  Stay away from drugs.  Wear a helmet.  Play puzzles and thinking games because it keeps your brain healthy.  Eat healthy food and get plenty of sleep. I realize if I eat good food it will keep your brain healthy.

First, I explained how the brain works and then I taught you how to keep your brain healthy.  Now that I know how to keep my brain healthy, I will wear a helmet because I want to move my body.  I think everyone should wear a helmet so if they are on a bike and fall they don’t damage the brain.
